Personal

In development

What your household is worth, and what it is made of.

Glysten Personal puts net worth first: what it is, what it is made of and where it is heading, with your goals beside it and an estimate of the year's tax. It is being built now, on the platform Glysten Books runs on and in the same clear look.

Not open yet: this page describes what is being built.

What it is being built to do

Net worth first, not a chart of accounts

A household is not a set of books. Personal has no journals, no debits and no credits: it starts from what you own and what you owe, and what that comes to.

Net worth

Where you stand, and how you got here

Every period's net worth, drawn as what it is made of: the house, the businesses, the investments and the cash, less what is owed. Drag across the years to read any month.

Every figure

A balance says where it came from

A statement, a sale, a valuation or your own estimate, and how sure it is. A correction is added over the old figure, never written on top of it, so the history stays true.

Valuations

Values you pin

The house at what you say it is worth, on the day you said it, until you say otherwise.

Goals

A target, and a Plan B

Set the net worth you are aiming for, with a second path beside it for when the first one slips.

Tax

An estimate of the year's tax

Federal and Oregon income tax, with Metro's and Multnomah County's, worked out from the year so far. An estimate only: it is not advice, and nothing is filed.

Snapshots

A year-end you can come back to

Freeze a date's figures as they stood, and open them later exactly as they were.

Later: a register for every account, the way Quicken keeps one.

With Glysten Books

Your businesses, in your net worth

For people who keep their businesses in Glysten Books, Personal is being built to take what Books already knows, so none of it is typed twice.

Plans, not promises: none of these has a date.

Where it stands

Being built, and holding nobody's data

Personal will hold a household's finances. It opens when it is ready for them, and not before.

✓
Security firstThe plan raises the platform's protections before any household's data goes in: a second step required at every sign-in, and the keys to bank connections encrypted where they are stored.
